The Commission des Forêts d’Afrique Centrale (COMIFAC) is an international confernce gathering together 10 Congo Bassin Countries (Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, CAR, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Raanda, Sao Tomé et Principé, DRC and Tchad). COMIFAC is a result of the Yaounde Declaration that has been signed in 1999. It has been created in December 2000 in Yaounde, during the 1st session of the Forestry Ministries conference, during which the Convergence Plan has been validated.


COMIFAC is the body defining orientation, making decisions, monitoring, coordinating and harmonzing the conservation and forest sustainable management activities. In the REDD+ framework, COMIFAC is organizing workshops and supporting capacity building projects. Since 2005, COMIFAC is defending the inclusion of avoided degradation and sustainable forestry management in the REDD+ mechanism, has submitted several position to the SBSTA and were particularly active during the Paris and Oslo Conferences.
