The Iwokrama International Centre for Rain Forest Conservation and Development Act provides for the sustainable management and utilisation of approximately 360,000 hectares of Guyana's Tropical Rain Forest dedicated by the Government of Guyana as the Programme Site for the purposes of research by the Iwokrama International Centre for Rainforest Conservation and Development to develop, demonstrate and make available to Guyana and the international community systems, methods and techniques for the sustainable management and utilisation of the multiple resources of the Tropical Forest and the conservation of biological diversity.
The Act establishes areas of wilderness preserve and areas of sustainable utilisation.
