SAGARPA is a Federal agency responsible for supporting agricultural production policies, leveraging agriculture sector advantages, integrating rural activities and encouraging the collaboration of producer organizations within programs and projects. It will play one of the most important roles in conjunction with the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources, as both the land use change and forestry sub sectors are responsible for deforestation and forest degradation in the country. It is currently implementing different programs which focus on rural development. It is Member of the Interministerial Climate Change Commission and presides the Interministerial Rural Sustainable Development Commission.
