Session Objective:

Participants in this session will become familiar with:

1.  The state of the world’s forests and the latest developments for REDD+ on the ground and in research.

2.  The current state of U.S. and international politics around REDD+ and potential policy scenarios for the near-term.

3.  All the existing channels in use for funding, what gaps still exist at scale to address 15% of global emissions from deforestation, and what we need to get to scale.

Session Description:

This session will present the lay of the land for the world’s forests and REDD+ today and challenge participants to think proactively and creatively about taking REDD+ to the next level—in public policy and public support, in funding, in scientific understanding, and in project design, scope and scale. The session will demonstrate that while climate change and REDD+ continue to face challenges in U.S. and international policy arenas, major advancements continue to be made in our “learning by doing” approach—signaling significant cause for hope and continued on-the-ground momentum for this critical part of the climate solution.
