Session Objective: 

Participants in this session will be able to:

1.  Identify the main challenges for REDD at Federal and State levels in Brazil
2.  Cite real-life experiences and approaches to those challenges
3.  Cite the current status of the Amazon Fund
4.  Identify ongoing policy initiatives at Federal level

Session Description:

This session intends to provide a broad perspective of REDD status and developments in Brazil both from a political and technical perspective.  The aim is exploring experiences of REDD policy design and implementation, not discussing proposals. Speakers will share their experience regarding ongoing policies and strategies at the national and state levels, with a focus on  the Amazon Fund, state-level policies and recent discussions on a REDD Regime for Brazil. TNC projects in the Amazon will be presented to illustrate both how policy influences on-the-ground work and how practical experiences could shape more efficient policy design.
