The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and other international organizations are organizing this full-day side event during the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). The event will highlight the role of forests and industry in fostering local livelihoods at the resource base and in enabling product transition to a low-carbon bio-economy among consumers, and will cover the following themes: the role of the forest sector in emerging bio-economies; forest certification; and contributions of forest industry in rural development.
