The execution of the National Afforestation and Reforestation Plan (PNFR) is led by the MAGAP, with support from the MAE, MIPRO y SENPLADES. The need to implement forestry programs and projects comes from the National Plan for Good Living to achieve a reduction in the rate of deforestation, where one alternative is to increase the area of forest plantations that may be production forests or agroforests. The PNFR is underway throughout continental Ecuador and aims for a total area of one million hectares of forestry plantations during a 20-year period; the Plan includes the following types of projects:
