In Ecuador, the environment is treated as a national priority and is one of the central axes of its National Plan for Well-Being.  For this reason, the country’s National Environmental Policy (NEP) incorporates the spirit of environmental management that has been adopted by the administration.  The implementation of the NEP depends on collaboration among different entities, led by the Ministry of the Environment and including the National Secretariat for Planning and Development, the Coordinating Ministry of National Heritage and the Environmental Advisor to the President, all of which contributed ideas for the preparation of this policy.  The policy document was approved with the participation and perspective of other actors of the National Government.  This policy includes all topics considered relevant to reach a level of well-being for all Ecuadorians that include the sustainable management of the environment, or are closely related.
