Workshops on South-South Collaboration - Manaus, Brazil, February and March 2009
Two workshops on South‐South collaboration on REDD demonstration activities were held in Manaus, Brazil, in partnership with the Institute for Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Amazonas (Idesam), Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS), and the Meridian Institute. The workshops structure included:
| * | Providing participants the opportunity to hear firsthand the challenges and successes encountered by project developers in designing REDD demonstration activities; |
| * | Providing participants the opportunity to hear firsthand the challenges and successes encountered by project developers in designing REDD demonstration activities; |
| * | Conducting a site visit to REDD projects of the Bolsa Floresta Program; |
| * | Combining in-depth discussion of relevant aspects of REDD projects with strengthening regional networks; |
| * | Conducting interviews with participants on different aspects of REDD and readiness for use in an educational video. |
The goals of the workshops were to enable South‐South collaboration and improve capacity of developing countries to share experiences and carry out in‐country REDD readiness activities with a focus on demonstration projects. Over 60 government, NGO, and indigenous representatives attended the workshops from Latin America, Africa and Asia, along with representatives from the UN-REDD Programme and FCPF.
