National Forestry Commission (Mexico)

Tha National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR) is an agency within the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT). CONAFOR is reponsible for designing and implementing national policies in the forest sector. Its main objective is to develop, support and promote Mexico's forest conservation and restoration, as well as to design plans, programmes, and policies for sustainable forestry development.

As the key REDD+ implementing agency, CONAFOR is the focal point for REDD+ initiatives, including those under the Forest Carbon Parternship Facility (FCPF). It has an internal REDD+ Working Group and is responsible for the development of the National REDD+ Strategy (ENAREDD+). As well as this, CONAFOR leads Mexico's REDD+ negotiations within the UNFCCC.
